Job Description:

Program Background Summary: Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) is five years USAID funded project starting June 2013 with the objective to support the provincial and regional departments of education (DoE) throughout Pakistan to improve reading skills of at least 1.3 million children in grade one and two. The goal will be supported by three interrelated components including improved classroom learning environment for reading, improve policies and systems for reading and community based support for reading in Pakistan. The anticipated results include 23,800 teachers in 23,800 public schools with improved skills in teaching reading, 3,649 scholarships for ADE and B.Ed. (Hons.) students, mobile bus libraries reaching out to 300 communities.

Job Overview/Summary

A major part of the project’s work involves the development and creation of new training material, modules, activity books, scripted lesson plans and workbooks for teachers and trainers in educational institutions across Pakistan. The project requires the services of a typist who will work with the material development team to type out all the material in Brahui  language softwares that can then be used for designing and printing these publications. The typist should ideally have good typing speed in Brahui , Urdu and English as well as at least two years of practical experience. Individuals who have previously worked on publications or those who are familiar with USAID branding guidelines will be given preference.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Typing of training manuals, modules, activity books, scripted lesson plan, decodable readers, leveled readers, flash cards, etc.
  • Format files especially in MS Office and InPage.
  • Support material development team to work out the best solutions to ensure high quality publications.
  • Ensure task prioritization and meet deadlines
  • Editing and proof reading drafts of the publications
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor.

Other Internal and/or external contacts: Work within the Communications Department, in close collaboration with the Graphic Designer and material development teams as well as provide support to any other department as and when required.

Education:

Minimum qualification: Intermediate/12 years of education or equivalent. Graduates will be preferred.

Work Experience:

Have at least 3 years of experience with a renowned organization. Experience with USAID projects will be preferred.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to compile statistics and reports
  • Ability to type at a moderate speed in Brahui  , English and Urdu
  • Knowledge and understanding of using other software- In-page, In-Design, etc.
  • Ability to verify information
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure and meet deadlines
  • Preference will be given to the candidates who can type in Brahui

Language Skills:

Knowledge of English and Urdu, spellings, punctuation and grammar

Certificates or Licenses:

  • Use of computer, internet and MS Office package
  • Excellent skills of formatting in MS Word- Brahui /English/Urdu
  • Excellent typing speed
  • Knowledge of different software like MS Word, In-page, Coral Draw
  • Typing in Brahvi  font using MS office and Diacritics- (Aeraab) in Brahvi
